No – mans land 2006, vague and indefinite, and yet bound

Het Kruithuis Den Bosch
5 november – 3 december 2006

No - mans land, land belonging nobody and owned by everybody. In an urban environment these are the places which are forgotten and are abandoned until they get a new destination. Places where you are never heading too, which are unlooked for and you unexpectedly bump into. The backside of a city, it has a sense melancholy but also the feeling of anything new that can happen here. These places find their meaning in the surroundings in which they are.

The location for my photo’s of no - mans land is in my own environment, I live between the little villages Lent and Bemmel. This area will be used for a new housing project of the city of Nijmegen. Untill the new has not found a purpose or the old has lost it’s destination, one can be in No - mans land in the backside of Nijmegen: the district Lent.
