'An empty
landscape', 2003 – 2006
I started this series
during my study at the Art school in Arnhem (2003). This series of paintings
are dealing with persons situated in an urban landscape. The paintings
are inspired by film: especially 'Film Noir'.
Together they can be seen as a storyboard for a film, a film situated
in the night, twilight or evening, where fear and alienation are a distinct
element. The choice for a panoramic seize of the paintings (200 x 70
cm). The composition and use of theatrical lighting is a way of bringing
cinematic influences in the paintings.
The viewer can make his own story of these empty landscapes, situated
in locations that are all realistic and close to where I live.
